A drug-free, non-surgical method of treating or preventing
disease by
manual manipulation of the joints of the body to restore normal nervous system
functioning
and promotes the body's natural healing capability.
Our vertebral column is designed for movement. The problem, though, is that if a bone can move, then it has the possibility that it can move and get stuck out of place. This restricted movement within our vertebral column is known as a subluxation or joint dysfunction. The spinal joint is not broken or fractured; it is just stiff turning to the left or right.
Think of it this way. A shoe that does not fit right can give you a blister. Similarly, a joint that does not move freely can irritate the underlying nerves. Now, subluxations don’t sever nerves, but they will decrease the healing energy from our spinal cord and nerves. To illustrate, when you are irritated you do not think and function at 100%. You may mean to say one thing but something totally different comes out. Likewise, your brain may be sending out electrical impulses to heal, but our irritated nerves scramble up the message and let only part of the healing signal to get through to our tissues. This decrease in nerve flow results in improper bodily function and weakness. Sometimes this can be detected by the presence of joint stiffness, muscle tightness and pain.
Chiropractic seeks to correct the cause by restoring proper function to the
spinal joints, paraspinal tissues and neurological pathways for health &
wellness. Nutrition, Exercise, Stress relief and Positive thinking strategies
are also aimed at achieving health & wellness.
